Blondie: No plans to stop working

Blondie have denied rumours that their frontwoman Debbie Harry is retiring, insisting they have "no plans to stop working".

Speculation over the US rock group's demise was sparked after drummer Clem Burke hinted that he thought their lead singer may be considering ending the band after 40 years.

"No plans to stop working, don't believe everything you read," the band wrote on their Facebook page.

Clem reportedly told the Daily Mail: "Debbie is 11 years older than the rest of us, so it's on her mind. We've tried to keep it going for as long as possible, but it's not just up to me. Nothing is finalised yet, but obviously there's no Blondie without Debbie Harry."

There was further uncertainty when the band's spokeswoman said: "They are in a hiatus at the moment. They will do some tour dates next year. Nothing is confirmed yet."

Blondie, who formed in New York in 1974, toured around the UK in July and have a number of North American dates scheduled in September and October. They are also expected to release a new album, Ghosts Of Download, later this year, following the release of new single A Rose By Any Name featuring Gossip singer Beth Ditto.

The group - which currently comprises of Debbie, Clem, guitarist Chris Stein, bassist Leigh Foxx, keyboardist Matt Katz-Bohen and guitarist Tommy Kessler - split in 1982 after the release of their sixth album The Hunter.

Since they reformed in 1997, they have put out three more albums and performed regularly.
