NewsDecember, 12 Elba's musical tribute to MandelaIdris Elba has revealed he has made an album for Nelson Mandela. The Luther star, who portrays the late South African leader in Justin Chadwick's drama Mandela: Long Walk To Freedom, worked with British musicians and South African producers on the record, which he is dedicating to Mandela. "I worked on this album called Mi Mandela, which is a tribute to the sort of work, the feelings and the sensations that I went through making Mandela," he said. "I took some musicians down from England to South Africa, we worked with some South African producers. We worked for two weeks and we made this really great album that is really special and I am hoping to release it next year. I can't wait to play it to people." Idris, who attended the UK's royal premiere on December 5, revealed he had no doubts about taking on the role, although he didn't believe the director at first. "There weren't any doubts. I had the conviction of Mandela behind me. His story is so amazing. If he could live that life, then I could make his life on film," he said. Naomie Harris also stars as Mandela's ex-wife Winnie in the film, which opens in cinemas on January 3, 2014.
