Tedder: Money isn't important to me

OneRepublic frontman Ryan Tedder has revealed that he has no interest in money, and only looks at his earnings once a year.

The musician apparently earned 2.5 million US dollars (£1.5 million) in 2013, some from his songwriting work for stars such as Adele, Beyonce, Ellie Goulding, Maroon 5, Demi Lovato and The Fray.

"At the end of every year I ask my business manager, 'What did I make this year?' and my goal is to match or beat the year before. And that's it. I don't know when my last royalty thing came in," he told Billboard.

Ryan is aware of the various pitfalls that can occur in the music industry.

"I've learnt the hard way [that] having a hit song, doesn't equal having a hit song. There's so many other factors: timing, promo, rollout, press... and I'm kind of getting to a point where I'm fatigued," he admitted.

"Less is more: Just do less songs. It's unfair to say for better artists, but certainly better situations."

Despite his solo success, the 34-year-old is keen to stress he has no plans to leave the band, whose single Counting Stars spent two weeks in the UK number one singles spot. Their other hits include Apologise (with Timbaland), Stop And Stare and If I Lose Myself.

"I did this to be with guys relatively close to my age, and we all go through this together," he said.

"I don't ever want this to feel like The Ryan Tedder Show. I never thought I had a cool enough name to be a solo artist anyway."

Ryan also revealed he'd like to work with Lorde: "I would love to write with her or Of Monsters And Men - they're pretty awesome."
