Alt-J: Morrissey can support us

Alt-J have teased that Morrissey should be their opening act, when they play their US dates.

The Leeds-based group, who won the 2012 British Barclaycard Mercury Prize with their debut album An Awesome Wave, joked they would like to give him a taste of his own medicine after he asked Sir Cliff Richard to support him on his American shows.

Singer Gus Unger-Hamilton told the Daily Star: "It's crazy. I'd love Morrissey to support us, purely to put him in his place. The look on his face as he was having to open for Alt-J would be fun."

The band are to remain as a trio since bassist Gwil Sainsbury left citing "personal reasons", and Gus admitted: "We're not sure if we will get another full-time member yet."

Alt-J have been busy working on their second album, following the release of An Awesome Wave, which was voted album of the year at the Ivor Novello Awards. They are also composing the soundtrack for Toby Jones' new film, Leave To Remain.

"It was important we took our time, as the album was written in our bedrooms," Gus said. "So we've found a strange, but freezing flat-cum-photographic studio in Hackney to start work."
