Folk duo aim for Atlantic double

Folk duo The Rails are taking to the air to play gigs on both sides of the Atlantic in one day, emulating Phil Collins's Live Aid performances.

The group - which features Kami Thompson, the daughter of musicians Richard and Linda Thompson - will play the pair of shows to celebrate Record Store Day on Saturday with shows in London and New York.

Collins famously played at Wembley Stadium and then hopped on Concorde for a further set in Philadelphia at the 1985 concert, although The Rails will be relying on the more sedate pace of a Boeing 747 for their trip.

A spokesman for the group - which is completed by Kami's husband, guitarist James Walbourne - said: " Where Phil Collins travelled in the lap of luxury, our intrepid heroes will forgo the champagne and caviar for some homemade sandwiches made by Kami's mum, Linda Thompson."

The act - who release debut album Fair Warning next month - will play the Rough Trade East record shop in London at 9.30am and then head to the Rough Trade shop in Brooklyn where they will perform at 9pm.
