Martin joins Kings Of Leon set

Coldplay's Chris Martin took to the stage to join Kings Of Leon on guitar as the band performed at BBC Radio 1's Big Weekend.

The unexpected appearance comes after Chris's band closed the first day of the festival at Glasgow Green on Saturday.

Kings Of Leon opened the final day performing favourites such as Use Somebody and Sex On Fire.

Also on the main stage is Paolo Nutini, Katy Perry, The Vamps and John Newman.

Rita Ora, The 1975 and Tinie Tempah complete the line-up.

Up to 50,000 revellers will have attended the free music festival over two days, with One Direction, Calvin Harris and Lily Allen among the acts who have already performed.

Other perfomances on the In New Music We Trust stage come from a number of big names, including Kasabian, Klaxons and Sam Smith.

Singer John Newman said: "It's crazy, Kings Of Leon have just come on stage at 1pm and One Direction yesterday at 1pm - it's opening up strong straight away.

"To be given a main stage opportunity the first year I've done it solo is incredible and I've kind of got to make the most out of it.

"I've played Glasgow and I've got a weird curse about travelling to Glasgow where my bus breaks down or we're always late or something, but we always manage to get here, and every time we do get here you know it's always an incredible gig, so thank you to Glasgow.

The Love Me Again singer said: "For me it's about capturing and stopping people, because it's a mad festival and there's a lot going on. Sam Smith is on at the same time as me who will be incredible and I've just got to do what I can to make sure people want to stay and watch my show I guess."

Jason Carter, head of popular music, live music and events at the BBC, said: "The atmosphere yesterday was electric and there's a lot of very young people having the time of their lives, you know the concert was for free which makes it even more special in terms of atmosphere, so we always find when we come up to Scotland that it's one of the best audiences and reactions.

"This venue in particular has a kind of amphitheatre around the main stage so it feels quite intimate for the artists. Certainly a lot of the artists have fed back and feel that they are playing in an intimate environment even though there's 25,000 people there.

"The Coldplay performance felt like a real moment actually, probably one of the best headline sets we've ever had at a Big Weekend, and tonight with Katy Perry I know having done a few shows with her that she pulls out the stops when she does her shows, so as a sort of finale to the whole weekend it's going to be awesome.

"This year it just seems that it's come round perfectly that we've had a line-up that I think would be the envy of any major music festival."
