Sheeran takes pop at ex girlfriend

Ed Sheeran appears to take a cheeky dig at an ex-girlfriend as he shot a new ad.

The video, launching the new Solo2 headphones for Beats by Dr Dre, seems to refer to the events that inspired his single Don't.

The singer has previously said that Don't is about a girlfriend cheating on him with a mutual friend.

While he has remained tight-lipped about the female's identity in Don't, he has revealed the song is based on past experience.

The song has sparked speculation it was about Brit-winning singer Ellie Goulding.

Ed was linked to Ellie for a few months in 2013, and one of the lyrics of Don't read: "We make money the same way... You were looking for a lover to burn," in a possible reference to Ellie's hit, Burn.

In the ad, the Lego House hitmaker is seen getting angry, slamming the door after entering and throwing his jacket on the bed before taking his phone and putting on his branded headphones.

The 23-year-old is seen using a Beats Music app to find the right tune to fit his mood - after divulging he's in a hotel room, feeling "ticked off and feel like writing a song to a 90s hip hop beat."

Ed, whose second album X will be released on June 23, has said: "The story in Don't is 100 per cent true. I could have gotten nastier - there was more s*** that I didn't put in..

"I was seeing someone for a bit of time, and then they ended up physically involved with one of my friends in the same hotel that we were staying in, while I was downstairs. And I feel like: Treat people how you want to be treated." he told Billboard.

The full ad can be seen on www.youtube.com/user/Officialbeatsbydrdre and will air on UK screens on June 2.
