5 Seconds Of Summer 'no boyband'

5 Seconds Of Summer have said they have no problem with being labelled - but their fans don't like them to be called a boyband.

The Australian pop rockers - Michael Clifford, Luke Hemmings, Calum Hood and Ashton Irwin - may have toured with One Direction but they insist they have a very different sound.

Guitarist Michael shrugged: "I think it's just whatever - our fans know what we are and it's not like we're avidly 'We're not a boyband', our fans don't want us to be called that."

The Aussie lads, who all play their own instruments, feel they have worked their way up on the music scene and earned their rock status.

Frontman Luke said: "I think when we started we were just four dudes from school and we did all the sweaty pub gigs...

Drummer Ashton agreed: "We just started out in a garage and I don't think we're a boyband at all. We write our own songs, we do our own thing, and hopefully we get to grow into a great band."

He added: "One Direction are incredible at what they do and we do our thing and it makes for an amazing tour. It's fun for us, fun for them and fun for all."

And the band - whose single Amnesia is out on Sunday September 7 - are hoping to collaborate with some British musicians while they are over here.

Bassist Callum revealed: "We're big fans of Biffy Clyro and Stereophonics and bands like that so it would be really cool to collaborate with some of those guys."

Michael added: "I think it would be cool to get a drink with Ed Sheeran, I feel like he's the type of guy who would be good to have a pint with."
