Liam Payne and Louis Tomlinson want One Direction to reunite 'sooner rather than later'

Liam Payne and Louis Tomlinson agree that the One Direction reunion has to happen "sooner rather than later".

The Strip That Down singer revealed to The Mirror that he and Louis have discussed getting the boyband back together for the first time since they went on hiatus in 2016 and they want it to happen as soon as possible.

When asked if a One Direction reunion could be on the horizon, he replied, "I spoke to Louis about it and we were saying it has to be sooner rather than later."

Talks about a reunion have been ongoing for the past few years and many fans were disappointed when Liam and Louis didn't reunite with their bandmates Harry Styles and Niall Horan to celebrate the group's 10th-anniversary last year.

Simon Cowell, who formed the group - which originally featured Zayn Malik - on The X Factor in 2010, previously told the publication in June that he thinks he could bring them back together.

"I think it will happen. If they got together, whether it's making records again or touring, it would be the most amazing thing," he said. "If I could get into a room with them and just say, 'You know what, whether it's six months or something, I think you'd have such a great time' – maybe I could persuade them."

However, Niall revealed on The Jonathan Ross Show back in May that none of the bandmates talk about a reunion and they're enjoying their successful solo careers.

"Of course, if everyone wanted to do it, I'd be down for it… you kind of need to all get in the same room and have the chat, but I don't know when that would be…" he explained. "Having the same opinion is going to be always hard. Unless everyone was completely in, I wouldn't want to do it."
