Westlife move viewers to tears with emotional performance with Pride of Britain Awards winners

Viewers were moved and left sobbing after Westlife 's powerful performance at the Pride of Britain Awards.

The Irish boyband took to the stage at Grosvenor House on Saturday night, with ITV viewers getting to watch their rendition of new track My Hero on Thursday night.

Throughout the inspirational finale of the Daily Mirror event, Shane Filan, Markus Feehily, Kian Egan, and Nicky Byrne were all joined on stage by the evening's remarkable award winners.

The four-piece's performance moved those watching at home, as they belted out the soul-stirring new tune - co-written by megastar Ed Sheeran - and its powerful lyrics.

"Wow. That @westlifemusic performance was absolutely stunning. So beautiful," one viewer took to Twitter to share.

Another wrote: "omg @westlifemusic my hero has me in tears."

"Pride of Britain had to finish with westlife just to tip us all over the edge emotionally," a third added.

Following their poignant performance, and the release of My Hero, Westlife opened up about about what the new track means to them and how.

"My Hero has such beautiful lyrics. It is a powerful, heartfelt song which has such a strong meaning for all of us," the band explained ahead of releasing their latest single.

"The single reminds us of the heroics people have shown over the last 18 months and it also reflects on our own loved-ones who so often have been our own personal heroes," they added.

The lads - who have been together since 1998 - then went on to describe their pride at getting to perform the new track at the Daily Mirror Pride of Britain Awards over the weekend.

"The track is packed with emotion and has the potential to really connect with people," the Irish quartet exclaimed.

"Performing it for millions of Pride of Britain viewers was the perfect launch for My Hero which will be included on our upcoming new album Wild Dreams."

My Hero's release comes as it was confirmed the lads will be embarking on a 2022 stadiums and arena tour and treating fans to a new album.

Speaking with The Mirror at the Pride of Britain Awards over the weekend, Mark admitted that after over 20 years together, the Westlife boys are closer than ever.

"Do you know what, I’d say we’re closer now that we have ever been, and that’s probably down to the pandemic," Mark revealed.

"We didn’t get to see each other for so long, so when we did actually meet up, it made us appreciate each other even more than we already had over the past 23 years."

He added: "We never fight – it's always just good craic with us. Now, we could have a bit of a tiff now and again, but over small, stupid things. But the next time we see each other it’s completely forgotten about. We’d give each other an old punch on the arm and laugh it off."

"We’ve never been in a better place to be honest. A friendship like this is one that will last forever. There’s no doubt about it."
