NewsMarch, 5 Liam Payne's girlfriend Kate Cassidy still struggling to accept his death![]() Liam Payne's girlfriend Kate Cassidy is still "working on accepting" his death. In her first televised interview since the singer's death in October, Cassidy admitted that she still refers to the One Direction star in the present tense because she has yet to fully accept that he's gone. "I find myself talking about him so much in the present tense, and it's something where I don't even feel the need to correct myself, because that's part of my healing journey that I'm still working on accepting the fact he's not here any more," she said on British morning show Lorraine on Wednesday. "It's hard for me to refer to him in the past tense, and when I do refer to him in the past tense, it almost stings that little bit more because it's more official." Her voice becoming thick with emotion, Cassidy added, "I never would've thought I'd be talking about him in the past tense, so it's definitely really hard to accept." The 25-year-old, who appeared virtually from New Jersey, had tears in her eyes as she confessed she has some "harder days" and noted, "But I'm surrounded by such a great support system that I cannot thank enough." Cassidy also heaped praise on the "one of a kind" star, saying, "I'll always have so much love for him... He would light up any room he would walk into, he'd have this sense of humour where he could make anything better, and his presence was just comforting, warming, and that's just something I'll never forget about him ever." Cassidy, who dated Payne for two years before he died, had been staying in Argentina with him but flew back to the U.S. two days before he died on 16 October after falling off his hotel balcony. Payne, 31, died of multiple traumas and had traces of alcohol, cocaine and a prescribed antidepressant in his body. Three people were acquitted on criminal negligence charges in connection with his death. Two men accused of selling Payne drugs remain behind bars.
