NewsApril, 16 Shirley Manson claps back at age shamers![]() Shirley Manson has clapped back at online critics who shamed her for ageing. The Garbage frontwoman took her online critics to task, pointing out she is "nearly sixty years old" after a news article described the members of her rock band as "unrecognisable" in new promotional photos. "Look - I'm nearly sixty years old," Shirley, 58, wrote alongside a screenshot of the article. "Of course I'm not going to look anything like my late twenties self?!? Quite honestly I think it would be a bit creepy if I did but hey that's just me." She added she believed the journalist had "weaponised" their words. "Either way - this kind of language is weaponised to put a woman like me in my place," Shirley declared. "So I have decided to reject this gift. This gift is a fail. I shall continue to age as I am." Shirley then detailed the ways she intends to carry on ageing naturally. "I will continue to wrinkle and flub - lose an inch of my height here and gain a new inch or two there - but I will still look cute in my pyjamas with bed head and no make up on and I will always - no matter what I look like - no matter what they say about me - I will always - and forever - rock HARDER than most." Shirley was 28 when Garbage's single Only Happy When It Rains hit the charts globally in 1995.
