FKA Twigs and Sam Fender nominated for 2025 Mercury Prize

FKA Twigs, Sam Fender and Pulp are among the nominees for this year's Mercury Prize.

The British singer-songwriter has been shortlisted for the prestigious prize for her third studio album, Eusexua, alongside Fender's People Watching and Pulp's comeback album More, their first record in 24 years.

British band Wolf Alice received their fourth consecutive nomination on Wednesday and made history as the first act in the award's 34-year-old existence to be nominated for each of their first four albums. They won for their second album, Visions of a Life, in 2018.

Addressing the achievement, singer Ellie Rowsell told BBC News, "For some reason, it makes me feel really anxious. But honestly, it's amazing... I feel like this year has been really cool for music in the UK and Ireland. So it's amazing to be amongst them. I'm very grateful and happy."

Wolf Alice aren't the only record-breakers this year - folk musician Martin Carthy has become the oldest-ever Mercury nominee at the age of 84 for his album, Transform Me Then Into a Fish, and PinkPantheress's mixtape Fancy That is believed to be the shortest-ever nominated album at just over 20 minutes.

The shortlist also features CMAT with her album Euro-Country, Irish rock band Fontaines DC with Romance, jazz musician Joe Webb with Hamstrings and Hurricanes, Scottish singer-songwriter Jacob Alon's In Limerence, Emma-Jean Thackray's Weirdo and Pa Salieu's Afrikan Alien.

Last year's Mercury Prize was awarded to rock band English Teacher for their debut studio album This Could Be Texas.

The award, which recognises the best British or Irish album of the past 12 months, will be presented at a ceremony in Newcastle, England on 16 October.
