Ed Sheeran's next album is almost 'ready to go'

Ed Sheeran has almost completed work on his next album.

The singer-songwriter's eighth studio album, Play, was released on Friday.

But during an interview for iHeartRadio Canada this week, Ed revealed that fans won't have to wait long for him to deliver even more music as Rewind is nearly "ready to go".

"I made Play and Rewind at the same time," he explained. "We finished Play first because it felt like the most exciting one. So, Rewind is... I'd say two months off being totally locked and loaded and ready to go. And I guess at some point in the next 18 months, it will come out."

Ed went on to describe Play and Rewind as "twin albums".

"One was one lent more into Indian culture and one lent more into nostalgia. So, they kind of veered off in different directions," the 34-year-old continued, noting that he has a few more promotional activities planned. "It's just fun and upbeat... and we're going to continue to have fun until Christmas."

Elsewhere in the chat, Ed insisted the secret to his success in the music industry has been a willingness to challenge himself.

"I don't want to make my debut record again, it's already done, I want to keep trying new things. Comfort is the death of anything interesting. You just have to be open, open-minded," he added.

Previously, Ed revealed that he is planning a total of five symbol-themed albums, with Pause, Fast Forward, and Stop to follow.
