Duffy to open up about kidnapping and assault in new documentary

Duffy is set to speak publicly about her kidnapping and assault in a forthcoming documentary.

It has been confirmed that the Welsh Grammy Award-winning singer and actress will share her life story in a new feature-length documentary for Disney+.

According to a press release on Wednesday, the Hulu Original documentary will explore Duffy's rise to fame, as well as her disappearance from the spotlight after she was kidnapped and held hostage several years ago.

The project will feature interviews with the singer's friends and family, alongside "close peers" from the music industry.

In a new statement, Disney+'s Unscripted Vice President Sean Doyle said, "15 years ago, Duffy was one of the most famous singers in the world. Her voice was distinctly recognisable and powerful."

He continued, "And then she disappeared. This film will give Duffy the chance to tell her story in her own words."

The executive also praised the Mercy hitmaker's "honesty and courage".

"We set out in a search for impactful, female-led stories in collaboration with Northern Ireland Screen, and it's a privilege that Duffy's is the first we're able to help tell," he stated. "But above all, I'm especially in awe of Duffy - for her honesty and courage to share her story."

Duffy, whose full name is Aimée Duffy, first spoke about her absence from public life in 2020, revealing she had been kidnapped, drugged, raped and held hostage for four weeks.

She rose to prominence in 2008 with her debut album Rockferry, which became the U.K.'s best-selling record that year. In 2010, she released her follow-up, Endlessly, before suddenly stepping away from the spotlight.

Duffy returned to music in 2020 with the release of her single Something Beautiful followed by River In The Sky later that year.
