Olivia Rodrigo relies on matchmaker friends to avoid dating 'serial killers'

Olivia Rodrigo has revealed she only dates guys recommended by her friends to avoid "crazy stalker serial killers".

The Drop Dead singer shared her thoughts on dating and heartbreak in a new interview for the summer issue of Dazed.

During the conversation, Rodrigo was asked for her opinion on the best way to meet a potential love interest and revealed she relies on pals to find her a suitable match.

"Through friends, for sure. Because then they can be like, 'I know this person, they're not a crazy stalker serial killer, trust me.' And you'll already have so much in common... that's definitely the best way," she explained.

Rodrigo went on to express her desire to someday meet a special person in a memorable way, rather than expecting friends to matchmake for her.

"I've never met someone in a real meet-cute way," she smiled. "I always picture sitting next to a cute guy on an airplane or something and being like, 'What book are you reading? Oh, my God, I'm reading that book too!' But unfortunately, that's never happened to me."

Rodrigo is gearing up for the release of her third album, titled You Seem Pretty Sad for a Girl So In Love, which was inspired by her first "adult relationship".

Having split from British actor Louis Partridge in late 2025, the Drivers License singer-songwriter touched upon the lessons she learned from the failed romance.

"I've been in relationships before that were really exciting and tumultuous in a teenage way, but this was my first time being in a real, 'big girl' relationship," she reflected.

"And when you're in an intimate relationship, it holds up a mirror and shows you parts of yourself that you would never normally see."

Elsewhere in the interview, Rodrigo was asked to describe her perfect first date.

The 23-year-old star insisted she prefers "something simple" rather than a flashy outing, and revealed her dream evening would start with dinner, followed by a comedy show, and finally ice cream.

When asked to share her advice on how to deal with break-ups, Rodrigo insisted she wasn't the right person for the job.

"Gosh, it's like the blind leading the blind! I'm not, like, Mrs Relationship. I'm not super sage and wise," she quipped.
