Floyd pair back to restage The Wall

Pink Floyd stars Roger Waters and David Gilmour have teamed up for a rare appearance together to restage classic album The Wall.

The pair, who had a bitter fall-out for many years, put their differences aside to share a public stage at the O2 Arena in London.

Gilmour added his distinctive lead guitar flourishes to Comfortably Numb at the sell-out performance, as a guest of Waters who has revived the epic and legendary Wall live show.

The pair had briefly reunited for a one-off performance by Pink Floyd at Live 8 in 2005, but further appearances under the band name were ruled out despite multimillion-pound offers.

However, regardless of ill feeling, the duo teamed up once more last year for a small charity show in Oxfordshire at a private party organised by Bella Freud.

At that show they played to around 200 guests, performing songs for charity pledges. As a thank you to Waters for accompanying him, Gilmour agreed to appear as a guest when his former colleague toured The Wall.

The pair played together on the original The Wall album in 1979 but simmering tension led to Waters quitting the group. His final performance as part of the line-up was in 1981.

The mammoth live Wall show - in which a huge partition was built across the stage separating the band from the audience - was so expensive to stage that Floyd visited only four cities to tour it.

But Waters has revived the production - complete with a crashing plane erupting in flames, grotesque 20ft dancing puppets and films - for a solo tour.

He played the first of six nights in London on Wednesday night, staging The Wall in the UK for the first time in 30 years.
