Gaga Bad Romance 'most played song'

Lady Gaga's chart-topping single Bad Romance has been declared the most-played song of the past year.

The track picked up the most radio airplay and public usage according to new figures from royalties body PPL.

The singer is also at number three in PPL's People's Pop Chart of 2010 with her single Alejandro.

Second place in the figures - which take account of public plays in shops and as incidental music - went to Alicia Keys for Empire State Of Mind.

The highest-placed British act was Plan B - rapper and soul star Ben Drew - with She Said, which was placed at number four. Only two other homegrown acts made the top 10, with Olly Murs at six and Florence Welch at eight.

The chart is being unveiled at PPL's annual general meeting tomorrow.

The most played classical tune was Hans Zimmer's main title theme from HBO TV series The Pacific, with Prokofiev's Romeo And Juliet, used heavily in BBC1's The Apprentice in second place.

PPL chairman Fran Nevrkla said: "The pop songs are truly modern classics, instantly recognisable and a great representation of the British public's appetite in the past year."
