Alicia Keys hosts fundraising ball

Alicia Keys has been joined by a host of celebrities for a fundraising ball in aid of needy children.

The singer's Keep A Child Alive Black Ball at the Roundhouse in Camden, London, was co-hosted by Grammy-winner Mark Ronson.

The star-studded event saw guests including Tinie Tempah, Paloma Faith, Chipmunk, Beth Ditto and Jay Sean step out on the red carpet.

Keys looked stunning in a black Givenchy gown with feathered skirt as she walked hand in hand with her husband, producer Swizz Beatz, whose real name is Kasseem Daoud Dean.

Keys, 30, a mother to eight-month-old son Egypt, founded the charity in 2003 to help African and Indian children affected by HIV and Aids.

And she revealed how motherhood has given her philanthropic work extra significance.

"It is a big deal, because I think about all the children who don't have a mum," she said on the red carpet. "They have to fend for themselves and look after themselves. What do they have left to do, if they have no one around to protect them? It makes tonight very, very important."

Keys, who is also celebrating the 10th anniversary of her debut album Songs In A Minor, added: "It's a great celebration tonight. I am so proud of everything I have achieved."

Performers for the evening included Ronson and his band The Business International, Faith and Tempah. George Michael was set to sing but he had to drop out after being struck by a tooth infection.

The event was also featuring an auction offering a studio session with Ronson, artwork of US President Barack Obama and a luxury trip to New York.
