Tight security for Beyonce arrival

Beyonce takes to the stage at Glastonbury on Sunday night amid heightened security around the singer's arrival at Britain's favourite music festival.

A "ring of steel" was being put up around the Bootylicious star who brings the three-day music extravaganza to a close.

Sources confirmed the American singer required tighter security than was planned for U2 and Coldplay. Queens of the Stone Age, Plan B and Paul Simon also feature on the bill as the festival comes to a close.

Beyonce, who fell in love with Glastonbury after watching husband Jay-Z perform three years ago, was among a celebrity-packed crowd for Coldplay's third headline outing on the Pyramid Stage last night.

During the hour-and-a-half set sprinkled with hits including Yellow, Viva La Vida and Clocks, frontman Chris Martin told the crowd: "Glastonbury, you are the best festival in the world."

Saturday also saw the triumphant return of Pulp to Worthy Farm.

The surprise act sparked unprecedented crowds at the Park Stage, with security guards closing off the packed arena with half an hour to spare.

Singer Jarvis Cocker told the crowd: "Glastonbury is a very special place to us." He said they were back after an adventure around the universe before adding: "Thank you for making us welcome."

Elsewhere, Jessie J performed from a throne as she ignored doctors' advice to skip the mudfest because of a broken leg. The Essex signer performed through the pain of a double fracture as she appeared on a specially-made throne on the Other Stage.

Songwriter Jessie, who has won critical acclaim and a string of awards for her recent breakthrough on the pop scene, said medical experts had told her to stay away from the quagmire at Worthy Farm. But she delighted the bumper crowd by declaring: "I had this mutual thing my fans - I don't let them down."
