Adele 'chuffed' with Mercury nod

Adele has said she is "unbelievably chuffed" about landing a Mercury Prize nomination.

The Someone Like You star's second album 21 is up for the prestigious music award - and is also set to hang on to its place at the top of the charts after the shortlist boost.

"I'm unbelievably chuffed to be nominated for the Mercury. thank you so so much, totally unexpected I found out yesterday on my way home from Paris," she wrote on her blog.

The singer also gave a shout out to indie rock band Wild Beasts, who had been tipped for a nomination.

"Congratulations to all the other nominees too. And I'd like to add my own nod to Wild Beasts as well. See you there," she wrote.

Adele's hit album reclaimed number one last week, with a 17th non-consecutive week at the top.

It is expected to stay at number one this weekend, according to The Official Charts Company, with Beyonce at number two and Adele's other album 19 at number three.

Adele is a favourite to win the Barclaycard Mercury Prize, and will battle it out with two previous winners, PJ Harvey and Elbow, and nine other acts.
