O'Connor: I'm more private now

Sinead O'Connor has vowed never to speak about her love life in public again after a "kind of awful" six months.

The singer - who has been winning critical acclaim with new album How About I Be Me (And You Be You)? - kept fans online well-informed about her private life as she married therapist Barry Herridge in Las Vegas in early December, separated after just 16 days, and reunited with him in January.

But Sinead told the Daily Telegraph: "My husband is a very gentle and delicate and private kind of person, so the last six months have been really kind of awful and I've learnt some very hard lessons, and one of them is I am never going to talk in public about anyone I love."

When asked what she hoped to achieve from her new record, she confessed: "To regain some of my dignity would be nice."

The mum-of-four added: "I'm on fire when I'm singing. I'm completely in character, I use my sense memories, and every syllable of it is meant. It's a very special thing.

"Nobody gets between me and my microphone."
