Katy Perry to top the singles chart

Katy Perry looks set to oust Gotye from the top of the singles chart.

Australian singer-songwriter Gotye has enjoyed a five-week run at number one in the UK chart.

But Katy's new track, Part Of Me, is expected to claim the top spot on Sunday while Gotye FT Kimbra's Somebody That I Used To Know has slipped down to number four in midweek figures, according to the Official Charts Company.

Pop star Katy recently denied that her new song was inspired by the end of her short marriage to Russell Brand, telling MTV: "It's funny because everybody is like 'God, it sounds so current'."

But she added: "I wrote it two years ago when I was writing and recording Teenage Dream, but it didn't feel right on the record."

In the album chart, Paul Weller looks set to go to number one with Sonik Kicks, the follow-up to 2010's Wake Up The Nation, according to the Official Chart Update.
