Stones wow Paris fans with live gig

The Rolling Stones have played their first live concert in five years in front of 350 lucky fans in Paris.

The crowd packed into the La Trabendo rock club to witness Mick Jagger, Keith Richards, Charlie Watts and Ronnie Wood launch through a quick-fire barrage of hits, as well as one or two surprises.

The Stones performed classic hits such as Route 66, It's Only Rock And Roll, Champagne And Reefer and Miss You and performed a live debut of their new single Doom And Gloom.

The concert was the band's first since their Bigger Bang tour ground to a halt in 2007.

The fans, who paid just £12 a ticket, were treated to five decades worth of material.

The band publicised the spontaneous event through Twitter and, within hours of being snapped up, tickets were exchanging hands online for thousands of pounds with some going for up to £12,000.

The Stones are about to release another greatest hits album which includes two new tracks, including Doom And Gloom, which last week peaked at number 97 in the Official Singles Chart.

Despite the clamour for gig tickets Doom And Gloom - which cost 99p to download - was the group's worst chart performance for a new single.
