Avril: I won't change my sound

Avril Lavigne has insisted she will never change her sound to suit music trends.

The 28-year-old pop-rock star burst onto the scene with Complicated in 2002 and four albums later has just unveiled her new single Here's To Never Growing Up.

And while many musicians feel the need to reinvent themselves, Avril said she is proud she has stayed true to herself.

She told Australia's Herald Sun: "It was important for me to not change my sound or my style, to be able to continue making the kind of music I make even though the state of radio and the music industry has changed so much.

"I don't want to have to follow a trend, I just want to be myself. It was helpful to make a label change and be back with LA Reid again. He signed me, he believes in me and he would never try to make me do something I didn't want to do or to manipulate my sound."

Avril - who is currently planning her wedding to Nickelback rocker Chad Kroeger - admitted her new single reflects her look at life.

She said: "I thought it was so cool and I love the Peter Pan idea of never growing up. I think being in music kind of keeps you young.

"The song is a side of me. I'm a balanced person who works hard and I take care of business, I'm mature. But at the same time, I am a free spirit and young at heart and I think to genuinely have a good time and if it entails staying all night, I'll do whatever it takes."
