Mel C's secret snog with Cardle

Mel C has revealed that she and Matt Cardle had a "cheeky secret snog" off-screen before cameras captured the big moment for their music video.

The pair get up close and personal and share a passionate kiss in the music video for their new single Loving You, and the singer - best known as Sporty Spice - admitted that the former X Factor winner helped to calm her nerves before they kissed for real.

"I've never had a love interest in a video before so I was really nervous beforehand. I've always felt too self-conscious before, and never really had the confidence to do it," she told the Daily Mirror.

"As they were setting up this particular scene, Matt and I were chatting and I told him I'd never done this before. As cringy and embarrassing as that was, we did have a cheeky little secret snog before we went down to do it for real on set.

"It was lovely. And because it made us all a bit giggly, it really brought us together."

The 39-year-old added: "But because this song is really sexy, it felt relevant - we weren't just doing it for the sake of it. And to be fair, it's not a hardship snogging Matt Cardle."

Mel - whose full name is Melanie Chisholm - teased that their on-screen chemistry spilled off-screen.

"We are both technically single but I think, in this instance, I should try and maintain a professional relationship... unfortunately!" she said.

Loving You, the first single from Matt's as-yet-untitled new album, will be released on August 18.
