NewsSeptember, 9 1D raise £2 million for charityOne Direction have raised a massive £2 million for Comic Relief through their single sales and fundraising campaigns. The boy band did not take any payment for their Red Nose Day 2013 song One Way Or Another (Teenage Kicks), a mash up of the Blondie and Undertones hits, which topped charts in 63 countries in its first week of release and has raised £850,000 so far. In January the boys visited Ghana for the charity, where they highlighted the problem in getting simple vaccinations for children, and managed to bring in another £1 million from the film they made. Other fundraising efforts included promoting a bake sale, Niall Horan's sponsored silence and Louis Tomlinson dying his hair red. One Direction auctioned off their outfits from their Ghana trip and Brit Awards performance, access to their suite at their O2 concerts, t-shirts signed by the band and 1D Pez sweet dispensers. Niall said: "We just want to say thank you to our fans for their generosity. They never cease to amaze us. We're so very proud of our involvement and knowing that this money will make a real difference is the best part of what we do. Please continue to support Comic Relief and do what you can for this incredibly important cause. Love Niall. X"
