George: Culture Club will be back

Boy George has revealed that Culture Club are to reform for a "completely new" album.

The group's frontman, whose real name is George O'Dowd, said the band will reunite to write fresh material - their first new songs in 15 years.

"Yes, I'm finally ready for it. It will be a completely new record. There's no point doing it just for nostalgia," he told the Daily Mirror.

Culture Club, comprising of George, Roy Hay, Mikey Craig and Jon Moss, previously reunited in 1998, before they released their last album, Don't Mind If I Do, in 1999. They later joined together for a 20th anniversary concert in 2002 in London, but disbanded so George could focus on his solo career.

The group - who had hits with Do You Really Want to Hurt Me and Karma Chameleon - tried to regroup for a tour in 2006 but had to shelve those plans when their lead singer and Roy decided not to join them on tour.

They also played two live concerts, in Dubai and Sydney, in 2011 without drummer Jon.

The 52-year-old, who is releasing his new album This Is What I Do, said plans for a reunion had been long on the cards.

"I talked a few years ago about a Culture Club reunion - they wanted me to do it for years but it wasn't right and obviously for five or 10 years I was going through other things," he explained.

"Jon was surprised when I told him I wanted the reunion to happen at last... but I wanted to do this album for myself first," he added.
