NewsNovember, 29 Backstreet Boys: 1D are like usBackstreet Boys have revealed that there is no rivalry between them and younger groups like One Direction, because they remind them of themselves. The US boyband - AJ McLean, Howie Dorough, Nick Carter, Kevin Richardson and Brian Littrell - had hits with catchy numbers such as Everybody (Backstreet's Back), Quit Playing Games (With My Heart) and I Want It That Way in the 90s, and say that watching One Direction's rise to worldwide fame makes them remember their own start in the pop world. Howie told Cosmopolitan UK: "Where they are is very reminiscent of when we first started." AJ added: "They remind us a lot of ourselves when we started out so it's cool to see them. We're happy for them and we wish them tons of success. They're very talented." Backstreet Boys, who celebrated their 20th anniversary in April 2013, will perform four shows in the UK as part of their In A World Like This world tour in 2014, having reunited with Kevin. They say that it is important for the younger generation of boyband to "pace" themselves, likening the music industry to a marathon. Brian said: "I always say it's a marathon so you have to pace yourself. Having 20 years in the business is almost unheard of. Don't burn out too quick. Don't work yourselves too hard, where you end up hating each other and you split up." His bandmate AJ added: "Everybody has their own path. Every artist has their own journey they have to go through and their own lessons they have to learn." Backstreet Boys will release their new single, Show 'Em (What You're Made Of) on December 16.
