The Temptations bassist Kerry Turman dies hours after performing

The Temptations bassist Kerry Turman has died aged 59.

The musician died on Sunday (23Apr17), just hours after he performed on stage with his band at the Show Me Center in Cape Girardeau, Missouri, on Saturday night.

The Temptations, who had been supporting the Beach Boys on their Surf & Soul Tour, confirmed his tragic passing on Facebook, writing: "The Temptations lost a dear member of our family, as bass player Kerry Turman has passed away. Rest In Peace, much love, much respect."

Turman had been playing with The Temptations for the past 33 years, the group's manager Shelly Berger said.

Beach Boys co-founder Mike Love was among the stars to offer his condolences following Turman's passing, writing in his own Facebook post: "It’s incredibly shocking, as we were just chatting and hanging around backstage Saturday night in Cape Girardeau. KT (Turman) was a gentle giant with incredible talent. He played bass on songs that will forever be part of our American songbook for the last 33 years. He was always so kind and jovial … His smile and spirit will be missed.”

The Cape Girardeau County coroner said Turman died from natural causes, but the official cause of death will not be determined for several weeks, pending an autopsy.

As well as his work with The Temptations, Turman also played bass for other artists such as Roy Ayers and Garry Glenn.
