Arctic Monkeys ‘eager’ to release new album that’s in ‘early stages’ of being written

Arctic Monkeys’ drummer Matt Helders has shared an exciting update on the status of the band’s next album.

Helders appeared on an Instagram Live where he was asked by Mike Dolbear about a possible new record.

Rather than keep coy on the subject, Helders expressed that his band mates, including lead Alex Turner, would be midway through recording one had their plans not been halted by the pandemic.

“There’s the early stages of trying to write a record but faced with the obvious obstacles,” he said, adding: “Being separated by the sea is one of them.”

Quelling fears that the band would go on another lengthy hiatus following the release of 2018’s Tranquility Base Hotel and Casino, Helders stated: “We’re eager to do it. We would have been doing it by now in a normal time.

“There’s definitely a desire from our end to do a new record as soon as possible.”

Just last month, the band’s manager, Ian McAndrew, said that he hoped they would start recording new music later this year.

Arctic Monkeys recently released a live album of their charity show at Royal Albert Hall, with all proceeds going to War Child UK.
