Little Mix say they 'have to respect each other's decisions' over Jesy Nelson exit but are 'still solid'

Little Mix have admitted they miss Jesy Nelson being in the group, but said “we have to respect each other’s decisions” as they insisted they are “still solid”.

The group won The X Factor 10 years ago, but in December 2020 Jesy decided to quit after ongoing mental health struggles and her three bandmates who decided to keep going have said that they “didn’t want to call it a day”.

Perrie Edwards, Jade Thirlwall and Leigh-Anne Pinnock appeared on Friday’s This Morning, where they were interviewed by Dermot O’Leary who announced their X Factor win in 2011 as host of the show.

Dermot asked: “What’s been the hardest thing about Jesy leaving, is it the fact that physically she’s not there with movements and things, or just that you miss your friend?"

Jade replied: “I think it’s a bit of everything, it’s definitely a shift but we have to respect each other’s decisions.

“I think moving forward, we didn’t want to call it a day. We wanted to carry on as a three and I think our fans are really happy that we’ve done that.

“Like Leigh said, we’re so excited for doing this as a three now as well.”

Leigh-Anne had already said that Little Mix have plans to release lots more songs from their newest album, Confetti, this year.

She said: “We’re ready for it, and obviously the 10-year anniversary as well, we’re very much still solid.”

Jesy, who is now making solo music, made a documentary about her devastating experiences of online trolling after becoming famous in the months before she left the group.

She had recorded album Confetti as part of Little Mix, but will not now take part in their tour.

Talking about the video for the album’s title track, which sees the group in a dance battle with themselves dressed as men, Jade said: “We do wonder as women whether we’d have had an easier ride as men, in a boy band.

“It was a lot of hard work, like seven hours of work with prosthetics.”

They also laughingly told the story of having to change their name from Rhythmix in the early weeks of The X Factor when they discovered there was a charity with the same name.

Jade said: “We thought we’d ruined it by changing our name to Little Mix, like that’s it, careers over.”
