Eurovision host Graham Norton backs UK entry James Newman to win after performance

It was James Newman's moment to shine on Saturday night, finally making it to the Eurovision stage after the final was pulled last year due to the coronavirus pandemic.

But all things went ahead this time around, with the 2021 finale seeing him perform his track Embers.

The brother of singer John Newman pulled off a great performance in front of the audience and even a live crowd.

James himself has co-written a number of well known hits including Little Mix's Love Me Like You, Rudimental's Waiting All Night and Matoma's False Alarm.

He's also co-written tracks for Olly Murs, Zayn Malik, Louis Tomlinson, Calvin Harris and Anne-Marie.

But now he's taking centre stage and hoping to be victorious with his own vocals, and he was the ninth act to perform as the live show got underway in Rotterdam, the Netherlands.

After his performance, viewers in the UK raced to Twitter to share their thoughts with many throwing support behind the artist.

It's then that host Graham Norton backed the singer, and urged people to vote for him across the world - with the UK obviously not allowed to vote for their own act.

After the performance, he said: "We had a little boogie up here!"

He added: "Oh James, lots of love in the hall, hopefully that does translate to some votes later on.

"You do deserve them James, just know that! We can’t promise you but you deserve them."

Meanwhile, Graham did not hold back on admitting some of the singers were not so good - leaving viewers in hysterics.

Graham commented right at the start of the show: "There were 39 countries but happily 13 were eliminated.

"We’ve got a real range of music tonight... some wonderful vocalists and well, some as flat as Holland."
