Lance Bass reveals he has Type 1.5 diabetes following misdiagnosis

Lance Bass has shared a health update with fans amid his diabetes diagnosis.

Earlier this year, the NSYNC star revealed that he had been diagnosed with Type 2 diabetes during the Covid-19 lockdowns.

But in an Instagram reel shared this week, Lance opened up about the "plot twist" of his health journey and how he actually has Type 1.5 diabetes following a misdiagnosis.

"As all of you know, I was diagnosed with Type 2 diabetes a few years back," he said in a sponsored post for a glucose monitor product. "But when I was first diagnosed, I had a difficult time getting my glucose levels under control even though I made adjustments to my diet, medication, and my workout routine. Things just weren't adding up."

"But, get ready for the real doozy," the singer continued. "Because I recently discovered that I was misdiagnosed, and I actually have Type 1.5, or Latent Autoimmune Diabetes in Adults."

According to Diabetes UK, Latent Autoimmune Diabetes in Adults (LADA) "seems to straddle" Type 1 and Type 2 diabetes but "isn't recognised as a separate type of diabetes yet".

Researchers are still trying to understand the differences as symptoms, such as feeling thirsty and really tired, tend to be the same across the board.

Elsewhere in the clip, Lance described wearing a continuous glucose monitor as a "gamechanger" for managing his symptoms.

In a previous interview for People, the father-of-two emphasised how is prioritising his health amid the diagnosis.

"Exercising is so key right now, but it's hard for me because of my schedule to get to a gym. So I do have a nice setup at my house and I get 15 minutes here, 20 minutes there," the 45-year-old shared. "The biggest thing that I've learned is to drink tonnes and tonnes of water. You think you're drinking too much water, (but) you need to drink even more than that."
