Drummer Josh Freese 'shocked and disappointed' to be let go from Foo Fighters

Drummer Josh Freese is feeling "shocked and disappointed" after being fired from the Foo Fighters.

The musician, who joined the band two years ago following the death of Taylor Hawkins, announced on Instagram on Friday that Dave Grohl and co. have dropped him for "no reason".

"The Foo Fighters called me Monday night to let me know they've decided 'to go in a different direction with their drummer.' No reason was given," he wrote. "Regardless, I enjoyed the past two years with them, both on and off stage, and I support whatever they feel is best for the band.

"In my 40 years of drumming professionally, I've never been let go from a band, so while I'm not angry - just a bit shocked and disappointed. But as most of you know I've always worked freelanced and bounced between bands so, I'm fine. Stay tuned for my 'Top 10 possible reasons Josh got booted from the Foo Fighters' list."

The Best of You rockers have yet to address Freese's Instagram post.

The 52-year-old, who is a member of the groups Devo and the Vandals, first started working with Foo Fighters when he appeared as a guest drummer during their Taylor Hawkins tribute shows in 2022. He was announced as their new full-time drummer in May 2023.

Hawkins died in March 2022 at the age of 50 while the Monkey Wrench rockers were on tour in Colombia.
