Doechii believes fans are still trying to figure her out

Doechii believes her fans are still trying to understand her as a musician.

During a recent interview with Cosmopolitan, the Grammy-winning rapper was asked for her thoughts on being positioned as the "intellectual" alternative to other female rappers.

"I wouldn't agree with that perspective," Doechii responded. "I've seen people describe me as 'the female that,' 'she's intellectual,' 'she's hard,' and 'she's scarin' hos.'"

The Anxiety hitmaker, who has skyrocketed to fame recently thanks to her music going viral on social media, went on to say that she thinks fans are just trying to figure her out.

"I think what's happening is people are trying to understand who I am as an artist, but they're doing it in comparison to other artists, which I don't think is necessary to interpret art at all," she told the publication.

Doechii is known to explore a range of topics with her music, including anxiety, depression and her journey with sobriety.

During in the interview, the rapper, real name Jaylah Hickmon, said she wanted to continue to use her music to start uncomfortable conversations.

"On my next project, I plan on having conversations," the 26-year-old revealed. "They might be hard for some people to have, but I think I want to bring up a dialogue about topics that might be hard for people to hear."

When asked what topics she would be discussing, the Denial Is a River singer coyly replied, "I don't want to give them away. But we're going to have a conversation on the album."
