Jessie J turned down starring role in Broadway's Cabaret

Jessie J has revealed she turned down the chance to play Sally Bowles in the Broadway revival of Cabaret.

The Price Tag singer auditioned for the starring role of Sally and got offered the part, but she ultimately turned it down because her son was "too young".

"I recently just got offered a huge part on Broadway that I turned it down because it wasn't the right time," the star revealed on BBC Radio 2. "Because my son was too young and I just couldn't... I will do it at some point and it was an amazing audition process, and I was so proud that I got it."

She continued, "And I was really grateful and I really wanted to do it. So if they hear this, it just wasn't the right time. I just wanted to spend more time with my son and going to New York wasn't the right time. But doing Broadway musicals, I wanna write one, it's like my passion. I sometimes randomly find the videos of my audition on my phone and I'm like, 'Ooof.' Yeah, it's a tough role."

Jessie, 37, welcomed her first child, a boy named Sky, with her basketball player partner Chanan Colman in May 2023.

Before she found fame as a singer, Jessie began her career on the stage, with her performing in Andrew Lloyd Webber's West End production of Whistle Down the Wind at the age of 11.

The Broadway revival of Cabaret opened last year with Gayle Rankin as Sally. She has since been replaced by Moana voice actor Auli'i Cravalho and stage star Eva Noblezada.
