Lady Gaga wins Sports Emmy for pre-Super Bowl performance

Lady Gaga has scored a Sports Emmy for her emotional pre-Super Bowl performance of Hold My Hand.

As part of the Super Bowl pre-game festivities held in New Orleans, Louisiana in February, the popstar gave a rendition of the track in recognition of the California wildfires, Hurricane Helene, and the terror attack on Bourbon Street during New Year's Eve celebrations a month earlier.

Fourteen people were killed and at least 57 injured in the tragedy.

For the performance, Gaga - real name Stefani Germanotta - was joined by a full band and choir, as well as local police officers and first responders.

On Tuesday, officials announced Gaga and her production team had won the award for Outstanding Music Direction at the 2025 Sports Emmy Awards.

"The #SportsEmmys Award for Outstanding Music Direction goes to Super Bowl LIX | Hold My Hand," they wrote on X.

Evolution of the Black Quarterback, The Lionheart, Noche UFC: For Mexico, For All Time, and The Turnaround were also nominated in the category.

With the Emmy, Gaga is now one step closer to prestigious EGOT status.

An acronym for Emmy, Grammy, Oscar, and Tony, the designation is given to people who have won all four of the major performing arts prizes.

"Putting the 'E' in @ladygaga's E-G-O... she's just short of the T!" Emmys producers added in a follow-up post.

Hold My Hand originally featured on the soundtrack for the 2022 action movie Top Gun: Maverick.

The anthemic track was nominated for a Grammy Award, Golden Globe, and Academy Award.

Gaga, who has not yet commented on the news, is currently preparing for her The Mayhem Ball tour. The trek is due to kick off in Las Vegas in July.
