Meghan Trainor was 'so grateful' when Sabrina Carpenter recorded her song

Meghan Trainor was "so grateful" when Sabrina Carpenter recorded her song.

Before rising to global pop stardom in 2024, the Espresso singer starred in the Disney Channel series Girl Meets World, and she launched her music career in 2014 with the debut single, Can't Blame a Girl for Trying.

In an interview with Bustle, Meghan, who originally wrote the song, described this moment as her "big break", as it took place a couple of months before she launched her major debut single, All About That Bass.

Speaking of her relationship to the pop star, the 31-year-old said, "I didn't get to meet her, but she was my superstar. Ever since then, I thought she was amazing, and I was so grateful that she (recorded) my song."

She continued, "I was just starting out. I was 17-18, and they said we're gonna get this song to a Disney star. And I was like, 'Yeah, right.' Then she did it, and it was my big break. Ever since, I've been so excited for her."

The Lips Are Movin singer recalled "gassing her up" at music events such as Jingle Ball, and praising Sabrina whenever they crossed paths.

Meghan added that she hopes Swedish singer Zara Larsson is the next pop star to receive wider recognition for her music career.

"It's how I feel now about Zara Larsson. She really deserves her flowers," she told the publication. "I don't know why she hasn't had her big moment in America yet, because the girl is so talented and so bomb."
