Jade Thirlwall claims festivals are 'a bit funny about girl groups'

Jade Thirlwall has claimed that music festivals can be "a bit funny" about booking girl groups.

The former Little Mix star has shared that she was "so emotional" when she finally received an invitation to perform at Glastonbury this year.

Speaking to TV personality and singer Michelle Visage for Interview Magazine, Jade reflected on her debut appearance at the iconic British festival in June.

"Yeah, that was nuts," she said. "Glastonbury was always on the bucket list, but in my head I was like, it's going to take a few years to even gain the respect to get that kind of booking."

Jade, who was part of Little Mix from 2011 until the group went on hiatus in 2022, noted that the band never secured a Glastonbury slot.

"We never managed to do it as Little Mix because those kinds of festivals are a bit funny about girl groups, so when I got the call to do it, I was so emotional," she revealed. "I feel like it shows how far I've come and that the music I'm making is paying off."

The 32-year-old launched her solo career in July last year with the release of her debut single, Angel of My Dreams, and she made her Glastonbury debut on the Woodsies stage less than a year later.

Jade released her debut solo album, That's Showbiz Baby!, earlier this month.
