Psychedelic Furs cancel tour due to 'serious medical issue'

The Psychedelic Furs have cancelled their upcoming tour due to a "serious medical issue".

The British post-punk band recently announced an extensive North American tour for this summer, with a support set by Living Colour. Before that, they were due to hit the road with another string of shows in the US with support from We Are Scientists.

Both tours have now been axed "due to a serious medical issue in the band".

The Furs did not specify the nature of the medical issue, but continued, "Please accept our deepest apologies for the inconvenience. Refunds are available at point of purchase. More soon."

The one remaining Psychedelic Furs show on the schedule is their performance at the Darker Waves Festival in California on 14 November.

The Psychedelic Furs are considered one of the defining post-punk/new wave bands in the UK, who crossed over into the mainstream when their song Pretty In Pink became the inspiration for the film of the same name in 1986.

Led by Richard Butler on vocals and brother Tim Butler on bass, they were together from 1977 until their split in 1992, before reforming in 2000.

The band recently made a memorable appearance in the fifth and final season of Netflix's Stranger Things, with Pretty In Pink featuring in the opening episode.

Contributing drummer Thommy Price passed away at the age of 68 last October, while one of the band's former producers, Dave Jerden, also died last year aged 75.
