Lily Allen Apologizes to Edith Bowman for Old Insult

Lily Allen has publicly apologized for calling radio DJ Edith Bowman a “trollop” in a scathing MySpace post from nearly two decades ago.

The British singer now says that Bowman is the one person she would most like to apologize to for her past comments. In a recent interview with Perfect Magazine, Allen was asked who she would choose to apologize to if she could pick just one person.

“I called Edith Bowman a trollop in one of my very early MySpace posts, for absolutely no f**king reason, and I apologise,” she confessed.

The original post, written in 2006, mocked Bowman’s radio enthusiasm and her alleged habit of claiming to be “BESTEST friends” with anyone in a band. Allen complained about being “rudely awoken” by Bowman “warbling on about how she is just BESTEST friends with just about anyone, so long as they are in a band and preferably wearing skinny jeans and stripey cardigans, and how the Magic Numbers are just absolutely brilliant, AGAIN.”

Bowman later learned of the post and confronted Allen about it during an interview at Scotland’s T in the Park festival. Speaking to students at Glasgow University at the time, Bowman recalled the encounter: “When Lily Allen was just coming out, she was not very nice and put something on MySpace about me and then got to number one.”

Bowman described approaching Allen in the rain, where the singer was wearing a poncho, prom dress, and trainers. “I went up and said, ‘Hello, what’s the problem? What have I done to offend you?’”

Allen then apologized for “lashing out,” explaining that she had been listening to Radio 1 every day, waiting for her record to be played, and simply reacted impulsively. “I’m the type of person who speaks before I think,” she said, according to Bowman.
