Father: Amy's drink-battle seizures

Amy Winehouse's father Mitch has told how his daughter suffered seizures as a result of her battle with alcohol.

The Back To Black singer was found dead at her flat in north London on July 23 at the age of 27.

In an interview with the Sun, Mr Winehouse said: "She had seizures because she would binge drink and then stop. She had one in a hotel room in New York once when she was on Skype to a friend. She conked out in front of him. I had to ring hotel security and they rushed in there."

Mitch added: "We won't know until the outcome of the inquest, but we suspect that was the cause."

He reportedly said the singer's attacks began as she continued to drink heavily after becoming clean of drugs in 2008.

Because of her very public battles with drink and drugs, news of Winehouse's death was quickly followed by suggestions it could be related to one or the other but toxicology results showed there were no illegal substances in her body when she died.

In the interview, Mitch said he does not blame his daughter's ex-husband Blake Fielder-Civil, for her death, adding: "It was a horrible accident. It was her responsibility."

Fielder-Civil is currently in jail, having been sentenced to 32 months in prison in June for burglary and possession of an imitation firearm.

Amy's last recording, a cover of Body And Soul with veteran crooner Tony Bennett, is released on Wednesday - which would have been her 28th birthday.

Some of the proceeds from its sale will go to the Amy Winehouse Foundation which her father has set up.
