Mother's 'comfort' over Amy's death

Amy Winehouse's mother has said her "only comfort" is the thought that her daughter died a peaceful death.

The singer was found dead in bed in her Camden flat in north London on July 23.

An inquest heard she was more than five times the legal drink-drive limit when she died aged 27. She was clear of illegal drugs when she died.

Her mother Janis told the Daily Mail: "Amy didn't want to die; she didn't have a death wish. She had a huge zest for life. There was so much she still wanted to achieve."

She said her daughter hated herself when she was drunk but struggled to keep sober, saying: "She was like a little girl who just couldn't resist putting her finger in the fan, even though she knew it was dangerous."

She added: "Everyone wishes for a peaceful death. My only comfort is that Amy's was peaceful. I like to think that she went to sleep and just didn't wake up, so I hope she didn't suffer."

An album of unreleased tracks by the singer will go on sale next month.

It features outtakes, two completely new songs and a demo recorded at her Camden flat while she played guitar.

Producers Salaam Remi and Mark Ronson pulled the album together after listening to thousands of hours of vocals by the star, many of them from sessions for her two studio albums Frank and Back To Black.

The album will be released on December 5 and retailers are expecting huge sales.
