Bieber at awards after baby claims

Teenage pop superstar Justin Bieber will face the cameras - and his girlfriend - when he appears at this year's MTV Europe Music Awards just days after denying allegations he fathered a child in a backstage bathroom.

He is set to perform at the event at Belfast's Odyssey Arena alongside acts including Lady Gaga, Bruno Mars, Coldplay and Jessie J.

His girlfriend, actress and singer Selena Gomez, is presenting the ceremony.

Justin went on American television this week to speak out after Mariah Yeater said she gave birth to a boy after she and the singer, then 16, had a brief sexual encounter after one of his concerts.

Justin told NBC's Today show he had "never met the woman", adding: "I know I'm going to be a target, but I'm never going to be a victim."

The music channel is taking over the Northern Irish city on Sunday for its annual ceremony, which will be held in three different locations for the first time with performances in the Ulster Hall and City Hall as well as the main arena.

Gaga leads the way with six nominations, while Mars and Katy Perry have four each.

Adele will be hoping to make up for the disappointment of losing out on the Mercury Prize after being nominated for the best female award and best video and best song for her hit Rolling In The Deep.

The singer, who lost out to PJ Harvey for the Mercury, also gets a nod for the best UK and Ireland act.

The awards have a massive worldwide audience. More than 22 million tuned in last year to watch acts including Rihanna, Plan B and Bon Jovi. The awards, which were set up in 1994, have previously featured performances by stars including U2, Take That, Beyonce and Jay-Z.
