Labrinth: Album is no masterpiece

Labrinth has revealed that he's not completely happy with his debut album.

The 22-year-old musician - whose real name is Timothy McKenzie - has been making the final tweaks for Electronic Earth, which is released on April 2, but admitted it would never be a "masterpiece" in his mind.

"I wouldn't say it's the masterpiece that I have in my head, because like they say, life is a constant search for improvement. I'm never going to be happy, I'm a perfectionist," he told FHM Collections magazine.

"When I get a little older, I'm going to be like, 'Mum, please don't show anybody these records'," added the Hackney-born rapper.

Labrinth, who is the first non X-Factor signing to Simon Cowell's label SyCo in six years, wants to inspire young people to aim beyond their means.

"I just hate that a lot of people from my area don't see themselves any bigger than either a footballer or a rapper or a guy that doesn't do anything with their life. They don't think about their families and the next generation, they just think about themselves," he continued.

"I thought, if I'm going to put my money into something, forget the chains, spinning rims and the girls - let me put my money into something that will help my family, or give me something to fall back on. I want to get into property as well, and we have a fashion label coming up called Odd Child."
