The Cure headline Electric Picnic

The Cure, Sigur Ros and Elbow will headline this year's Electric Picnic festival.

Other big acts confirmed for the three-day gathering at Stradbally Hall, Co Laois, include Grizzly Bear, Orbital, Hot Chip and local heroes Christy Moore and Glen Hansard.

John Reynolds, of promoters Pod, said he has been fighting for years to bring British goth-rockers The Cure to the annual music, arts and comedy bonanza.

"I'm really looking forward to this year's festival, particularly having The Cure on the line-up, a band we've been trying to get on the bill for seven years," he said.

The band, who stormed last year's Bestival on the Isle of Wight with an epic 32-song show, including favourites Lullaby, Boys Don't Cry, Just Like Heaven and Lovecats, are expected to play at least a two-hour set in Ireland. The track list will be drawn from their 14 studio albums.

Other acts confirmed for the festival are The Roots, The XX, Metronomy, The Horrors, Azealia Banks, Roots Manuva, Bell X1, Staff Benda Bilili, Milagres and Ed Sheeran.

Alabama Shakes, Cranes, Little Roy, John Digweed, Land Lovers, Baxter Dury, Jonathan Wilson, Solar Bears, Fatoumata Diawara, Willis Earl Beal and Lanterns On The Lake have also been added to the line-up.

And those looking to learn or brush up on their gaeilge can pick up a cupla focail with An Puball Gaeilge.

The festival runs from Friday August 31 to Sunday September 2.

Tickets, which go on sale at 9am tomorrow, are priced 230 euro for the full weekend, with family camping tickets at 230 euro per adult, allowing free access to two under-12s per person. Sunday only tickets - with no camping allowed - are available at 99.50 euro, while campervan park access will cost 60 euro.
