Chris Brown on course for top spot

Chris Brown is on course to score his highest-ever chart position.

The Official Charts Company said today that he is in line for a number one at the weekend if sales continue strongly for Turn Up The Music until the weekend.

Chris and fellow chart star Rihanna split three years ago after he attacked her in a car. He was later given community service and five years' probation after he pleaded guilty to assault over the incident.

But now the US singer's music career has bounced back in the UK with his latest single potentially set to topple Katy Perry from the top of the singles chart.

His previous highest placing was in 2006 with debut single Run It!, which reached number two, but he is likely to better that, according to officialcharts.com.

A remix of his latest release by Rihanna emerged online recently, which drew some criticism.

But Rihanna defended the collaboration in a TV interview saying: "We did two records, one for my fans and one for his fans, and that way our fans can come together.

"There shouldn't be a divide, you know, it's music and it's innocent."
