Rihanna, Swift lead EMA nominations

Rihanna has been nominated for six gongs at the MTV Europe Music Awards.

The Talk That Talk singer - who has more nods than any other star - is up for Best Female, Best Pop, Best Look, Best Song, Best Video and Biggest Fans at the ceremony, which will be held in Frankfurt in November.

Rihanna faces competition from US country star Taylor Swift, who is up for five trophies.

The pair will go head-to-head in several categories.

Justin Bieber and Katy Perry have each scored four EMA nominations, followed by a slew of acts, including Lady Gaga, Nicki Minaj, Lana Del Rey and Carly Rae Jepsen, with three nods each.

British boyband One Direction have been nominated for two awards - Best New and Biggest Fans.

Green Day, Gotye, Pitbull, Rita Ora, Flo Rida, Muse, Arctic Monkeys and Jack White are also up for two awards.

Conor Maynard, Rita Ora, One Direction, Jessie J and Ed Sheeran will compete for the coveted Best UK And Ireland trophy.

The 2012 MTV EMAs will air live from Frankfurt's Festhalle on Sunday November 11.
