Mum's the word for John Legend

John Legend has revealed that he has been surrounded by strong women his whole life.

The nine-time Grammy award winner, who will perform at the Sound For Change Live concert in London, thanked his mother Phyllis and his grandmother for inspiring him since he was a child.

"My mother is a big inspiration - she home-schooled me when I was young - and my grandmother. Both of them stressed education and music to me, and I wouldn't be where I am today without either of them. I'm not intimidated by strong women," he said.

John - who is engaged to model Chrissy Teigen - will take to the stage at the concert, which takes place in Twickenham Stadium on June 1, which Beyonce will headline. Ellie Goulding, Florence + The Machine, Timbaland, Haim and Rita Ora are also in the line-up.

"I think we are going to have a great concert. I definitely would love to play some of the songs from my new album, and play some old favourites as well," he said.

The 34-year-old singer also teased that he would be up for a duet with Beyonce, who also co-founded the organisation and is acting as artistic director for the gig.

"I don't know, you'll have to ask Beyonce that. I'm certainly down!" he said.

Tickets for the Sound Of Change Live, presented by Chime For Change - the worldwide campaign for girls' and women's empowerment, are on sale now from www.chimeforchange.org.
